I love the song: "Been Here Before", the lyrics have profound spiritual wisdom and spoke to me exactly at the time I needed to hear the message within. Thanks for writing this!
Thanks so much ysteban! As much as I love applause, and money, too, my real goal is to touch people in exactly this way. Your feedback helps me keep going. Still working on that album!
That's the most important reason....
Beautiful lyrics and poignant message on "Been Here Before", Patrick; a lovely metaphysical message!
Thanks for the lovely feedback!
Pleasure is mine Patrick!
Thank you Peter for the *****s on "Heaven In My Guy", collaboration with Starburst Music! Glad you stopped by, and best to you!
You earned it. I would love â"¤ to have you check out my songs as well. Feedback is always appreciated, too.
Thanks again, and I plan on listening to your music soon. I've had house guests over the holidays & will catch up!
Your lyrics are lovely...I would like to hear maybe more beat with sole the heart is there for sure. I am happy you shared this with me. I like it! It is lovely the way you put it together and your music is soft. Almost to soft? Thank you for sharing. Sincerely, ME
Hey Kathyjo: I didn't see a "reply" feature on my own comments, so am replying here to your feedback. I appreciate your caring to be honest -- that's how we grow. I have been listening to favorite songwriters for over 50 years, so I fully agree with your suggestion there. I also know that my vocals need plenty of work. Though I have been a singer for a long time, my real mad skills are with the saxophone, so still working out the singing a bit. I also just happened to start with my most challenging work, since it is very slow and has a lot of long, sustained notes. Yes it is meant as a cut on an album. It just happens to be the first one I got finished and was able to release. I'm unashamed to admit I'm an old hippie, and this type of "extended cut" was a staple in the 60s through the late 70s, before the punk thing started hating on it. As a Boomer, I know that I'm part of a HUGE population bubble and hoping that many of those folks will be touched by the retro feeling here and probably like it. I certainly don't want to limit myself to that, however. As to song length, I agree this is a long one. I have heard the conventional wisdom about song length for a VERY long time, and I understand the arguments. I also did a bit of recent research, and checked into today's hottest pop stars -- Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus, and the like. What I found, was that their biggest hits average about 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 minutes! I like your idea about adding something to the chorus to set it apart. This particular song was a real labor of love because of the message, so I was being careful not to add too much and obscure the lyrics or the very contemplative feeling. I have one other song that is a sort of slow, contemplative ballad like this one and I am adding a full "saxophone choir" where I overdub my tenor and bari playing to take the place of strings swelling up in the chorus. The original concepts about song length date back to the days of vinyl, when it wasn't possible to put more information than that onto a 78 or 35 single disc. This is what spawned the "two minute hit" tradition.
Hey Patrick Glad to hear some of the suggestions were prudent. I look forward to hearing the revised tune. Until then, keep it flowing!!! All the best to you :)
So to be Totally honest .The Pno playing was smooth as silk. You'll need to fit the words better in the song.Originals have to sound convincing especially the lyrics.Maybe work on it some more on the lyrics .That's just my opinion .Have a good day.SS
I truly do appreciate your feedback, but not sure what you mean by "fitting better in the song. " are you talking about the rhythm and groove? The melody 🎶? The words themselves? I've been a sax player for 50 years, so my singing is influenced by that. I wove the vocal in and out of the beat intentionally. It's a common jazz and blues technique. Anyway, would love â"¤ it if you would say a little more.
Hey Patrick. Thanks for reaching out. I took a listen to your song and I offer these humble words. Nice mood. Real soothing approach and good for meditations and introspective moments. I appreciate your spiritual subject matter as well. Those are the good things. Not sure what you're looking to do with this song but if putting in the current market place is your ambition, I would first edit your song down. It's over 6 mins which doesn't work in any setting, aside from long album track placement. Somewhere 4 mins. max is where you should end up. You might consider cutting the intro down. That will help a lot. The cadence of your lyric also needs a little work as it seems a bit clunky in delivery. Last, the chorus could use a lift musically. Something to set it apart form the verses. I would listen to a song you really love, one that reminds you of your song and pay attention to how they crafted the lyrics. There's a reason you like what they did. Anyhoo, I hope some of this helps. Sending good thoughts your way.
And thanks for getting it out there!!
I looked in all my reviews your not there But I'll listen.
Greetings! This is Patrick Dieter. I reviewed one of your songs around a month ago, but didn't have any of my own stuff up yet. I cared enough to be honest, so you may or may not have actually liked my review. Whatever the case, I would be honored to receive a review and/or critique from you of my first song. Thanks and I wish you well!
Thank you Patrick I listened today and it is a lovely song. I am honored to be invited to listen. You lyrics a very heart felt and powerful. I like it a lot! Sincerely, ME
Chet. Thank you for the Joni Mitchell updates. I wish I had the chance to meet her. (I saw her once in concert). 'Edith and the Kingpin' is probably me favourite song ever. David
Chet, thanks for any update. I remember watching an interview with Joni, just recently on youtube. Here's the link for anyone interested :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Haj WhhXkfYQ ., Mr Lindsay Mac
Hey, Chet! It's Patrick Dieter. I reviewed a song of yours over a month ago, but it took until just today for me to have a song on my profile that I felt was ready for consumption. I would be highly flattered to receive criticism and feedback from you, if you are so inclined.
Chet, I've been out of the loop for a while. Just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your story about Joni and "trading an eagle for a moose to buy some camels." Poetic indeed. No one lives forever. When her time does come (hopefully that be many years from now), her musical legacy will live on. Anthony
Got to see her twice, both times here in Madison, WI. The photo shoot for her album, Hejira was taken here on lake Mendota, with a spit of land called "Picnic Point" jutting out into the frozen lake and her on skates looking gorgeous as usual. She slid down from the ceiling on an enormous silken rope for her entrance on that tour.
You know the great George Carlin and what he says? That it is all bullshit and it's bad for you.
He knew his shit. Thank you for the 5.
Hi Trouts, Thanks so much for the kind review of Waking Dream, so glad you liked it! All the best, Mal
Hi Malcolm, It's a great song and very much deserved the review. I'll certainly be giving the rest of your repertoire a listen to. Keep up the good work and good luck! Alan (The Trouts)
I almost forgot. Here are the lyrics. I hope this gives you more of the story :). I dare to love in a world so cold I dare to jump in with my arms wide Who'll take hold? Brought back to life, from a foolish cage I dare to love, but who is prepared for what love wants of you? I swear to love, 'cause it feeds my soul Like jammin' to the sweetest bass on your favorite song-- Never gets old Pure as the light that shines on me, from which it came, I swear to love So let the cold winds blow Let the fires rage I'm willing to let go Surrender Can't have it any other way Give my heart to share the joy and pain Take of my love, I want you to Don't walk around so cynical Time is short and we're just shadows Don't waste it all on bitterness It's surely bound to led to bitter ends So let the cold winds blow Let the fires rage Be willing to let go Surrender Can't have it any other way Take care of my love until I fade Pull out the fight, the fight in me and feed my flame that's burning for you until I fade away Take care of my love But are you prepared for what love wants of you to take care of my love? So let the cold winds blow Let the fires rage Be willing to let go Surrender Can't have it any other way Give my heart to share the joy and pain Take of my love, Take of my love, Take of my love, I want you to
Twin Suns is launching our first studio album TOMORROW. First demos will be ready SOON. Look forward to it with us!
Our first song is READY! We are SO excited and utterly delighted to share it with you all. Please feel free to review it, and don't hold back. I've already had PLENTY of "attaboy" type comments. I want HONEST FEEDBACK from fellow professionals. I will consider it an honor to be criticized.

HiJust wanted to say I reviewed a track of yours and went to put the scores in and found I was blocked out through some sort of glitch. So if it comes through with zeros - that is not the score I gave.
Hey Patrick, Thanks for the review of my song, "Jezebel". It comes from a recent CD, "Sunday Morning". I am happy to share that it won the "Best Song Contest" on November 2013 at Broadjam! So, a lot of folks, like yourself, enjoy the song. I placed the song, in the New Age Jazz-Progressive genre, because it is really too jazzy to be a folk song and the topic is a bit more progressive and challenging to be in a folk category. My first albums from the late 60's were very much folk-based, but I moved on to a more progressive style. I think a lot of people who don't know what or how to cast a song will arbitrarily drop it in the "folk" slot. Currently, "Jezebel" is #1 on the New Age-Progressive chart and has been #1 or #2 for almost 6 months. Interestingly, enough, this is also a song I wrote back in the 1970's that was demoed but never made the cut to be included in one of my early albums....so, I let it stew a bit and re-visited it 2 years ago and did a full up production and the song really took off. It has been used in a couple TV shows and is the "being considered" pile for a couple movies. Funny how this works, eh? Anyway, thanks for the review and let me know when you've loaded some songs to your page so we can give them a listen. Best to you, Chet Nichols Inductee - The Kansas Music Hall of Fame
