Bio
Born Catherine Mary Wood in the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota
to a large middle class family, Cathy Wood began her musical
career at an early age. Cathy's father, Donald Wood, was a
businessman, and her mother, Annabelle Belanger, sang with
big bands in 3 live radio programs during the 1940s. Cathy's
instrumental influences include piano, woodwinds and guitar.
Her lyric writing stems from well over a decade of poetry writing
and publication. One of the groups Cathy has performed with was
an acoustic trio Les Amies. Barbara With, founder of Les Amies,
has this to say: "Cathy sent me a tape she had produced of her
original music. I was immediately struck by the depth of the lyrics
and the ethereal quality of her voice."
Cathy's debut album entitled "Journey Of The Soul" contains 8
original songs and earned her a place as a finalist in the Lilith
Fair Acoustic Talent Search (1999), as the opening act, having
been one of 25 contestants (out of 250 artist submissions). The
album carries the melodic grooves of world-influenced music, and
her voice carries an ethereal quality that beautifully conveys her
thought provoking lyrics.
Cathy hopes to find success in recording and live performance.
As a singer-songwriter, she anticipates a long career in the music
industry.
