I started playing guitar when I was 13 and pretty soon I had recording equipment and was making my own songs. I had my first full instrumental CD when I was 15. (which obviously wasn?t recorded that great) My dream and purpose from that point on was to become a professional musician so that I could do something good in the world. From there is when my story becomes unique.
I was a freshman in high school when I met my social studies teacher, Tony Maurer. Some kids suggested that I come in and play guitar for the class. (only because we had a test that day) Tony told me I had 5 minutes as he was skeptical that this would be entertaining at all. I ended up playing the whole day and we never took the test.
Tony already had tons of life experience and loved to write poetry. Somehow we decided to put his words to my music and the writing team was born. At first he was the one singing the songs and eventually it turned into me singing them. We have written somewhere around 100 songs.
We are both Christians and you may hear that a little in the lyrics but it isn?t blatantly obvious. Most of the lyrics are uplifting positive messages which isn?t always heard in the music we listen to today. I have the feeling that getting this music to a secular audience will do more good then being labeled strictly as a Christian band. However, I am not completely closed to the idea of being signed by a Christian label.
