Simple As I Am
Nkeng released his debut album Simple As I Am in 2006, to showcase his songwriting. It contains songs in Pop, Pop/Rock, and Country, and features some of music's new prominent artists, like Herbert Wamey, Flo Anito, and Victoria Patchen, and includes production collaborations with industry pillars like Andre Bell and Janice Upchurch (NeverSleep productions - who have produced for Dru Hill), Dave Bellechio (who engineered and produced for Queen Latifah, Hall and Oates and Naughty By Nature) and Darnley "Mello-D" Hodge (of the Grammy Ballot nominated band Mello-D & The Rados).
Simple As I Am opens with the folksy-pop-rock masterpiece, "You Remind Me". A shot of awakening to your senses, "You Remind Me" is a moving tribute song, that Nkeng wrote as a salute to the late Rev. Dr. King. It was recently bestowed a suggested artist honor by Song Of The Year (VH-1 Save The Music). It also earned Nkeng an invitation from the Director of Gear Up (a Music in Schools Today program) to use the song, to inspire at-risk kids in San Francisco.
Then there’s the rush-of-pop-to-your-head; the melodically hypnotic "Simple As I Am". Already a huge pop song on radio in Cameroon, this song offers better love to a broken heart. Nkeng sings with a soft, yet powerful voice, which sometimes grabs you with its honesty and pure emotion, and other times lets go of you with the soothing release of its quiet sweetness.
“wonderful honesty & sentiment... hypnotic... an appealing quality in [his] voice & songs that is engaging...”
