Joshua J. Urban

Cheers everyone.

My name is Josh Urban from Washington, IL.
https://joshuajurban.com/jobeelca-records

I have been writing 'mostly' instrumental music for 25 plus years and am finally getting around to having some of my songs recorded from cassette... to the digital world.

I tend to write in a few different genres, but I always try to employ a good song structure, rhythmic hooks, strong melodies, & space when needed.

I am currently writing for placement in all mediums.

I love getting to know other fellow musicians / songwriters out there and encourage any feedback you may have.

Listened to Dark Green Light. Very nice. Hints of Andreas Vollenweider sprinkled in there. Really enjoyed it.

Joshua, can you direct me to info on how you were able to set up your website on Broadjam? None of the templates resemble what you are using and I am unable to get a response from the tech side of Broadjam. Any guidance you can provide is appreciated. Fred

Hey Fred. Sorry just seeing this message. I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Are you referring to my website mentioned in my bio?

I gave Dark Green Light (no Perc) 5 stars because it is a great cue for many background/underscore situations...constant but gentle movement..well done! The version with percussion...I found the snare a bit distracting and would change that for perhaps light bongos or something similar! Very nice, I'm sure this will get picked up! Just my personal view (I know you like to hear feedback!)

Thanks. Yeah...I agree on the snare part. I should've maybe rethought some things there. Definitely appreciate the feedback. Especially the constructive criticism.

I've made the same mistake....much easier hearing the faults in other peoples music lol...we are often far too close to our own compositions (especially when writing every day) to make a good personal judgment! Do you have music in many libraries (I only see a handful of your songs here?)

I have a few songs in one library, but nothing really has landed for any placements. One day at a time, I guess.

Hey David - I took your advise & removed the snare completely & re-released (but liked and kept the rest of the percussion).

I'm glad you sent me that critique. I was kind of thinking the same thing, but you confirmed it for me. The fella who played the percussion on this track did a great job, but I just think there was a bit too much snare throughout.

Cheers

Yes! for use in media I think this works much better without the distracting snare...the only other thing I would do is add a couple of edit points to please every one (keep this mix as is though) you have an edit point around 1:44 that works well. I often do an alternative mix with edit points...can be sometimes hard to make the edit points sound natural but keep in mind production guys often only play 10 to 30 seconds and will appreciate this option

Thanks again for the support and advice on the edit points.
