"I always thought I didnt fit quite well", says singer/songwriter Frank Krischman about growing up in Brazil. When all the other kids used to play soccer he was the tall white guy that played basketball. Where the others used to listen to Samba and more commercial Brazilian music Frank preferred the dissonant chords and percussive fingerpicking of jazzy/Brazilian Bossa Nova and by his teenage years he was completely conquered by Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and other classic rockers. That Rock drive guided Frank to start playing guitar and composing. He also began to dig deep on other musical styles, most notably Blues and Folk and to participate in local Hard/Metal bands that ended up even releasing a couple of albums that were already sung in English. All that changed more than a decade ago when he decided to move to the U.S. Although here, for a long time, music was not his first activity; but it was always there...in the background...brewing. "Songwriting is like a wound that never heals", he says, meaning that he was able to patch it up for a while but it kept bleeding a little until a time about 3 years ago when everything blew open again and all the songs just kept coming out. When he had about 60 full songs, he got a small Pro-Tools rig and started recording himself. Basically thats how his first CD, SUNSET SESSIONS, came to life. It quickly resulted in 16 tracks that are as eclectic as his own musical and cultural background. SUNSET SESSIONS, with its mix of Rock, Folk, Pop and even Reggae and some Latin grooves, is a good display of Franks songwriting skills. The lyrics are mostly about fate, love, faith, and one can feel a great deal of spirituality on some songs, but without being religious. Everything in the CD was either played or programed by him, with the acoustic guitar, where his music is originally written, being kept as the main instrument in the mix. However, arrangements and instrumentation were kept simple to highlight the songs themselves. After all, these are the same songs that brought music back full circle in the life of this songwriter.
In the spring of 2007 Frank was approached by an old friend, the brazilian singer and producer OLIVIA. From an initial colaboration of 2 songs their work together evolved so fluidly that an entire album was ready in few days. This Album is just out and it is called FULL BLOOM. Now, Frank Krischman has the rush and motivation again to make his albums and songwriting his priority again.

Sunset Sessions Review

Defining someone?s musical style is always a hard task. This is especially true if you are trying to categorize the sound of someone like singer/songwriter Frank Krischman.
Eclectic and soulful are the two first words that come to one?s mind when listening to his Cd, Sunset Sessions, a collection of 16 songs ranging from ballads (Everything to Me, Until I Find You), to mid-tempo rocks (Full Bloom, Borrowed Time) all the way to Reggae with Precious and even some Latin infusion with Joce.
Some of the folks here at the office, that have also listened to Sunset Sessions, mention Ben Harper as a reference, mainly due to the eclecticism of the songs and nature of the lyrics. Others also made comparisons to Jack Johnson because of some cool moody melodies, John Meyer for some good guitar playing, and even Caetano Veloso and Djavan, two great songwriters from Brazil, where Frank is also from originally. Although, these two last artists influence him more on the use of chord sequences and jazzy/Bossa nova fingerpicking. After more than a decade living in the U.S., plus his own background as a Hard/Metal rock guitarist, Frank has strayed away from his native land sounds and firmed solid roots on the Rock and Folk terrain.
Overall, Sunset Sessions is a delightful sample of Frank?s music, with great songwriting, hooky choruses and lyrics that talk about love, fate, hope and faith. Despite having recorded all instruments himself, this is not a virtuoso album. All arrangements seem to have been well thought out and added in with simplicity in order to keep the main focus on the songs. The results showcase Frank Krischman as an uprising singer/songwriter with enough talent and musicality to attract any recording label out there looking for this new breed of artist.
