Paul Bolger is the singer songwriter and co-founder of Chicago's own, Mr. Blotto. The band has played 3000 shows in 19 years fueled by these songs and this voice. The jams are wide open and frenetic, the improvisation is palpable, and the crowd is LISTENING and taping. The very thing missing from most "jam bands" is songwriting. This band has that card in spades. Couple that with a lead guitarist that blows people away with both rock chops and more importantly, real musicality in his playing. The Hammond B3 player pushes gospel into scream territory nightly.A drummer that sounds like a Steely Dan bonus track with a bass player who thinks like Leland Sklar and there's your rhythm section. The voice is Ray Charles and Janis Joplin's love child sung with the authors touch, truly getting inside of songs. The Bolger brothers gleefully report that they are "songwriters trapped in a jam band". I can think of no kinder fate
