The Girl I Called Saturday Night

Story Behind The Song

Christmas time three years ago, my sister passed away. I wrote this song imagining just what Jesus Christ was saying to her and doing for her as she slipped away.

Song Description

"Place me like a seal over your heart," the Lord says, "like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death." At church after communion, we would sing this portion of the Song of Solomon (8:6) and I always imagined the Lord uttering those same words

Tom?s Reflections: Built on the Song of Solomon 8:6, this song is for and about my late sister, Susan. The phrase ?precious bundle of myrrh? is borrowed from a sermon by Charles H. Spurgeon.
__________

Our feast is unsurpassed. At last, I see her in the blur
Of pastel-windowed tabletop, my precious bundle of myrrh.
The host greets and seats her. Her footfall getting nearer.
I fill her glass with wine.
Forgetting bitter things she said,
Remembering the tears she shed,
Breaking bread.

She got so many stares, I nailed 'em all together
So she could climb past the sky and look up forever.
Every lover needs to see what she?s seein?,
To see what?s in store, not just what?s in between.
Sweeter than her precious little feelings.
Taller than a child?s room without any ceiling.
Who?s the girl? I?ll tell ya who.
She?s THE GIRL I CALLED SATURDAY NIGHT.

I loved her when she shoved her way into this brittle world.
I loved her when she danced for me, the way she swayed and twirled.
For many years and many fears, not many chose to stand and cheer.
Past the thorns, she found a rose or two.
But I set her name upon my arm.
No harm when love is strong as gone,
It goes on and on.

She got so many stares, I nailed 'em all together
So she could climb to the sky. Now she looks up forever.

Some people say I?m not around, and I?m headin? for a fall.
They even tell me to my face, like I?m not here at all.
But when storms start a-howling, even rocks start a-growling,
It?s a different game.
When birds have fallen from the air.
When homes are leveled, stand and stare.
We?re the pair.

I got so many stares, they nailed 'em all together
So I could climbed to the sky. Now I look down forever.
And lover you need to see what I?m seein?,
So you know what?s in store, not just what?s in between.
Sweeter than your precious little feelings.
Taller than your room without any ceiling.
Who?s the girl? I?ll tell ya who.
She?s THE GIRL I CALLED SATURDAY NIGHT.

Hey, don?t fear. The dark hour?s here. Time for sleep. The race is run.
The sunlight spills. It fresh appears. You kept me on your tongue.
Our feast is unsurpassed at last. I see you in the blur
Of pastel-windowed tabletop, my precious bundle of myrrh.
