Lyrics
McCawley's Soapbox (DKid)
1 Just a face among so many faces
Never drawing a second glance
McCawley made his way through the masses
Like so many times in the past
2. His mind sifted through information
Sometimes thinking aloud
And in his imagination
He could hear the cheers of the crowd.
3. Arranging his thoughts in logical sequence,
He marched briskly through Hyde Park's entrance
And ascended his wooden throne;
Donald McCawley was home.
4. And he spoke out against the government,
He spoke out against capitalists
The bankers, the fat cats and the big corporations
The left wing and right wing, the United Nations
The religious and atheists -
All got their turn
And everybody who heard what he said
Turned their backs, and never returned
To McCawley's soapbox again
5. He soon became quite familiar
To the people who came to the park
For when he stood on his soapbox
McCawley spoke until dark
6. And he spoke with a burning conviction
Of everything that had to change
Warning of coming afflictions
If people don't heed what he says
7. He spoke out against the monarchy
He spoke out against the communists
The comrades and cadres and workers' collectives
The White House, the Kremlin and European Union
Believers and Agnostics - all got their turn
And everybody who heard what he said
Turned their backs, and never returned
To McCawley's soapbox again
8. And as the early evening grew colder
McCawley pulled his coat over his shoulders
And trudged weary steps back into the shadows
Where with a hat in his hand, on a distant street corner
He waited for people to give
9. And early the following morning he left
The cardboard shack where his body slept
And made his way through the crowds again
Back to Hyde Park where he lived.
10. And he spoke out against the billionaires
He spoke out against the lobbyists
The deep state, Free Masons and anarchists
the Epstein class and Satanists
All the world's hypocrites all got their turn
And everybody who heard what he said
Turned their backs, and never returned
To McCawley's soapbox again
11. And when there was no-one to listen
McCawley spoke to the trees
Receiving applause from the branches,
And silent support from the breeze.
Yes, when there was no-one to listen
McCawley spoke to the trees
Receiving applause from the branches
And silent support from the breeze
