Lyrics
The Bible And The Belt
© Weston James Music
Growing up in our house wasn't easy in the least
"Yes ma'am; No sir; mind your ma, or you're gonna feel the heat"
Every night on our knees, before we'd go to sleep
"And don't forget to say please" was what they drilled into me
I was the king, knew everything, wasn't nothing they could say
It was the belt, the strap, or daddy's hand, that helped me change my ways
"Just you wait till Pa gets home" was all it had to take
For me to pad my jeans, But I'd still feel the sting
I grew up caught between the Bible and the belt
Spare the rod, or spoil the child that's what my parents felt
Guess I learned a lot of things about the Word and raising Hell
I think I turned out well, from the lessons that were dealt
upon the back of my jeans, they educated me
About the Bible and the belt
Well won't lie, sometimes I got lost along life's way
It's amazing I've survived, all those times I've tempted fate
If it weren't for what I learned from them I'd of surely failed
Cause now I can see, just how much of them's in me
REPEAT CHORUS
After God had called them home, one day I realized
That when I look, at my young son, It's like seeing me,
But looking through my parent's eyes
REPEAT CHORUS
