Story Behind The Song
There's a saying where I grew up: "It's always cloudy in Rochester." In tough, cloudy days, I used to dream of moving South. My Dad would tell me, "The sun is always shining; it's just above the clouds!" Years later, as I struggled to find connection in my new Southern home, that became a metaphor of hope for me.
Song Description
A soulful folk song with gospel influences, "Above the Clouds" encourages listeners to look above the clouds of life to find the light is still shining... and when we can't do that for ourselves, to do that for each other.

Lyrics
It's always a sunny day above the clouds
It's always a sunny day above the clouds
When all I see is rain, remind me in my pain
that it's always a sunny day above the clouds
All I know has gone away
and the sky has turned to a deep dark gray
I need you to shine your light and say
that you're here to stay
It's always a sunny day above the clouds
It's always a sunny day above the clouds
When all I see is rain, remind me in my pain
that it's always a sunny day above the clouds
My feet are stuck on the ground
as I wait for the sound of heaven coming down
'Cause the only hope to be found
is above all the clouds
It's always a sunny day above the clouds
It's always a sunny day above the clouds
When all I see is rain, remind me in my pain
When all I see is rain, Lord, remind me in my pain
When all I see is rain, shine your light so I can say
that it is always a sunny day above the clouds
