V Is For Victory

Story Behind The Song

The song is a conversation between a romantic couple. They are falling out over their differences in opinion about religion. The man is not religious and is trying to convince his lover, who has fallen for the charms of a church, to leave them behind and see his way of thinking. This plays out throughout the song, with various metaphors and imagery illustrating how diametrically opposed the two may be, which despite their chemistry, may mean they are simply incompatible. The man is desperate to hold on to his lover but knows he cannot compromise his beliefs, the woman has a similar conflict. The song ends with the uncertainty if the future of the relationship - "are we done?".

Song Description

A smooth, housey, electro pop song with catchy choruses and a deceptively dark undertone. The lyrics are deliberately ambiguous so as not to stray in to 'preachy' territory. The song is a conversation between a romantic couple. They are falling out over their differences in opinion about religion. The song continues with the couple desperately trying to come to terms with what may be a relationship-ending conflict of opinion. The final lyrics "are we done?" seems to indicate that this is a stumbling block they can't get over.

Lyrics

V is For Victory
(Words and music, copyright Gareth Ebbs)

You've fallen for a laboratory
Masquerading as a safe-house for lost souls
Why do you have to see the worst in everything?
How do you know for sure?

Sometimes we don't need proof to see it's the truth

V is for Victory (we're going to strange places)
V is for Victory (we're going to strange places)
V is for Victory

I see beauty you see ice and snow
You see Victory I see mind control

Falling in love
Falling in love
Falling in love

I see sunscreen you see Mexico
You see victory I see mind control

Isn't it strange they all drive such big cars
While serving their almighty
Maybe its strange when I think it through but this place, these people
They care about me
They've made me find a way to find myself
They don't what happens to your soul
Until you sell it to someone else

I see beauty you see ice and snow
You see victory I see mind control
I see sunscreen you see Mexico
You see victory I see mind control
I say alright you say way to go
You see victory I see mind control

(We've jumped a long way together, is this something we can't get over
We've jumped a long way together, are we done?)
