Song Description
The originally written lyrics were all about a relationship, but literally on the night before recording, Leiza & Jay huddled together at our hotel in Nashville and radically changed the tenor and concept of the entire song to be about female independence. We're both pleased with the result.

Lyrics
The Older You Get
Intro
When I was so much younger
And life's carpet was rolled out
I chased the golden dragon
Without an ounce of doubt
With confidence and gusto
Growing up just went too fast
I ran across the rainbows
Seeking nothing that would last
But then the days grew longer
And the nights sang their own song
And now I've grown to wonder
Where it all just went so wrong
Forever isn't always
With an everlasting sigh
I left my nest behind me
To become a bird that flies
Musical intro BASS LINE
The older you get
The more you regret
So baby just please
Help me to forget
Because I wanna be me
I wanna turn the page
And set myself free
My life's been a check
That never came through
The feelings I had
Had always been true
You know I wanna be me
I wanna turn the page
And set myself free
(bridge)
But I know I was wrong
So I'm singing this song
Just to tell you
I've rearranged my view
Take a look at me now
Just watch me take a bow
Cause I'm the one who's
Paid off my I.O.U.'s
(16 bar instrumental break)
(bridge)
But I know I was wrong
So I'm singing this song
Just to tell you
I've rearranged my views
Take a look at me now
Just watch me take a bow
Cause I'm the one who's
Paid off my I.O.U.'s
I'm leaving my past
I'm free at last
My mind's all made up
Don't get lost in the facts
You know I wanna be me
I wanna turn the page
And set myself free
