Story Behind The Song
Left the farm in the country to try to make it as a singer-songwriter. Made a really good friend who became my singing/songwriting partner. Later I found GOD (He wasn't really lost, I was!)
Me, my wife and my family became Jehovah's Witnesses and still are today.

Lyrics
This song is dedicated to my good friend and music partner Brian (The Bear) Baggs. The other half of "Skeet & Brian" since 1970.
That's My Story Written November 2025
Driving down the road in a pick-up truck, dust clouds flying behind.
Daddy said you make your own kind of luck, so I left this farm behind.
Headed out west with a couple of friends, music in our heads,
Not much money in our pockets, we were living on dreams instead.
Working the fields, working the bars, but nothing was working out right.
So I left those boys and I hit the highway, headed for the City of Lights.
I was playing Jesus on a college stage, hoping for a miracle soon.
Late at night found my guitar, working on a brand new tune.
This girl said hey, you gotta meet my friend, you know we call him The Bear,
I think you guys could make good music, I think you could go somewhere.
So we got together and the music flowed, and you might think I'm lyin'
The songs were smooth, the sound was gold, It was the start of Skeet and Brian.
(CHORUS)
That's my story.....mmmm....hmmm, that's my story
That's my story.....mmmm....hmmm, that's my story
Well the years went fast and time moved on, and we're still friends for life.
I love my kids with all my heart, I love my beautiful wife.
But I think about those early days when the music flowed like wine.
Now I've got my faith I've got my hope, so I don't sit around and pine.
Driving down the road in a pick-up truck, dust clouds flying behind.
Now I wish I'd never left the farm, but you can't go back in time.
Now I won't stop and I won't slow down, heading to the edge of the world.
I've got new strings, I've met The Bear, and I've got my beautiful girl.
(CHORUS)
That's my story.....mmmm....hmmm; that's my story (REPEAT and FADE)
