Lyrics

night falls all around you
rest and dream in this place between where you're going and where you are now
soon you'll see all there is to see
and y ou'll soar like y ou've never done before
and you'll flly
higher and higher
so high
til you touch the sky
and soon you'll begin to race3 with the wind

sunrise, it's a new day
and all around new life abounds
how it beckons and it calls you
"come and play, cast your fears away
and soar like you've never done before
and you'll fly
higher and higher
so high
til you touch the sky
and your life, your love, lives on and on
with each new day,
with each new dawn

One of the hard things I had to do during a trip to visit my relatives was to write the final song for the play I was working on at the time, ?On Dragonfly Wings,? which is the play based on the book ?Wailana The Waterbug." The story is based on the life of Alana Dung, a little 3-year old girl who died of leukemia. Her family attends our church, and we are all supportive of each other in many ways. They helped with the play, and the play in turn helped many, many people during difficult times in their lives. It is the story of a young waterbug named Wendy, who goes through the ?change? earlier than expected, and it shows how the family and friends deal with the situation.

At one point in the story, Wendy is lying in bed before she becomes a dragonfly (the change) and an ?angel? sings to her from above, telling her not to worry about what is to come.

This is the song that I had to write while I was visiting my Aunt Barbara, who had been diagnosed with cancer and didn't have much longer to live. It was one of the hardest songs I have ever had to write, and yet it was healing in a strange way, too. The song is called ?A New Dawn.? And while I was writing it, I was praying for Aunt Barbara to not be afraid, and for all of us to not be afraid. Because with all my heart, I believe that Aunt Barbara and my father are in heaven, and now watching over us, and they are truly flying free, soaring, no longer suffering. And for that I am so thankful. I just can?t wait to see them again when we are all in heaven together.
Opening night of On Dragonfly Wings was the day we discovered that my dad had cancer. Mom came to the show with me, and during ?A New Dawn,? we were both crying so hard and squeezing each others hands. Aunt Barbara passed away within two weeks after that. Dad passed away a couple of months later. It all happened so fast.
