Story Behind The Song
The lyric came fast and hot with no music, which is unusual for me. Songs usually come the other way around. The lyrics made me visualize a Jimmy Webb "Wichita Lineman" type of harmonic landscape. This could have been a more contemporary song if I had written the verses major and more pop country but, at the urging of my wife I went with my original impulse to go minor but kept the 2nd verse major.

Lyrics
Travelin' Man
Like weather on the windshield you try to wipe it off
But sometimes change comes at you like a premature blast-off
It's hard to clear your vision driving blind behind the wheel
So best just keep on movin' beg, borrow, or steal
I thought i'd found my calling several times you know
Sometimes it just took a while to leave and let it go
I don't spend much time wondering while wandering this life
What woulda, shoulda, coulda been; can wait for the afterlife
We're all just one avalanche away from destiny
Just around the mountain It waits and wants set free
We're all just one win or loss away from scream or shout
Me I'm just a travelin' man I get out and get about
I'm a travelin man - Just a travelin' man
I know someday the novelty of changing scenery
Might just lose it's luster like some dusty jewelry
But long as I'm contented and the dusk leads to the dawn
Don't be surprised when I arrive that someday I'll be gone
We're all just one lucky chance, a dance of gambling cells
Searching for some meaning that will move us; that propels
We're all just one tank of gas to fill or let run out
Me I'm just a travelin' man I get out and get about
I'm a travelin' man - I'm a travelin' man
Still a travelin' man and I don't want to to land
Does the road ever end for a travelin' man
