Story Behind The Song
I had been away from home for a long time and I was pretty homesick. I was driving on the freeway in rush hour traffic and this song came to me. I had a pad of paper and a pen and wrote the lyrics as I swerved in and out of traffic.
True story.

Lyrics
"MY TOWN"
by Rick Spurgin
See all the old timers who once had farms
Spinnin? yarn down at the coffee shop
Telling stories about days gone by and how it used to be
and how it?s all changed since they were young
Driving down the avenue, along the rows of houses
and in the yard, there?s a barking dog
In the drive lies Johnny?s dream he wants to fix up,
that old Chevy that?s sitting up on cinder blocks
This is my town
This is my America
With a neon beer sign shining through the window in the tavern down on Fourth and Main
and on Friday night the kids drive down Broadway just to turn around and do it again
Oh this is my town
This is my America
In mid October there?s a homecoming game, afterwards there?s a hayrack ride
Young couples join together and fall in love
At this little jewel at the edge of the Hawkeye state
You are my muse and I look to you for inspiration
even though I?m three thousand miles away
When I hear the sound of a freight train in the distance
as it rolls away
then I know your never that far away
This is my town
This is my America
With the county fair on the fourth of July after the Pride parade
Well we?ll join together for a lawn concert before the kids go to bed
Oh your my little town
You?re always gonna be my friend
This is my town
This is my America
With the neon beer sign shining through the window in the tavern down on Fourth and Main
and on Friday night the kids drive down Broadway just to turn around and do it again
Oh but who says that you never can go home again
Oh you?re my little town
You?re always gonna be my friend
