Lyrics
JUST AN OLD TARNISHED RING
THEY WERE OLD FOLKS NOW, OR AS SOME MIGHT SAY
IN THE TWILIGHT OF THEIR YEARS
BUT THEIR LOVE WAS STILL STRONG
AS IT WAS WAY BACK THEN, WHEN THEY WERE KIDS
WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD
CHORUS:
AND THOUGH HIS RING WAS NOW TARNISHED AND OLD
IN HIS HEART IT STILL SHINED LIKE PURE GOLD
AND THE LOVE THAT HE FELT, STILL MADE HER HEART MELT
JUST LIKE A YOUNG GIRL, FROM THE HAPPY DAYS OF OLD
BUT WHEN HE WALKED THROUGH THE DOORWAY ONE DAY
HIS EYES GLISTENED AND HIS HEAD TURNED AWAY
THE OLD RING WASN'T THERE, HE HAD LOOKED EVERYWHERE
BUT HE HAD LOST IT, IT WAS ALMOST MORE THAN HE COULD BEAR
CHORUS:
AND THOUGH HIS RING WAS NOW TARNISHED AND OLD
IN HIS HEART IT STILL SHINED LIKE PURE GOLD
AND THE LOVE THAT HE FELT STILL MADE HER HEART MELT
JUST LIKE A YOUNG GIRL, FROM THE HAPPY DAYS OF OLD
FIVE YEARS HAVE GONE BY SINCE HE'S GONE
SHE THINKS OF HIM EVERY DAY WHEN SHE'S ALONE
BUT SOMETHING HAPPENED TODAY, WHEN HER GRANDSON CAME TO STAY
HE SAID "GRAM" YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT I JUST FOUND
SURE ENOUGH, IT WAS THAT OLD TARNISHED RING
HE'D FOUND IT IN THE YARD BY THE SWING
THOUGH IT WAS MUDDY AND COLD, TO HER IT LOOKED LIKE PURE GOLD
HIS LOVE SURELY WAS SMILIN FROM ABOVE
ON HER BEDSTAND AT NIGHT, SITS THAT OLD TARNISHED RING
WHERE IT'LL STAY, CAUSE HE STILL MAKES HER HEART SING
