Lyrics
John Deere and Souvenirs
I was born and raised the city,
I knew a couple of my neighbor's names
I played rock and roll in a Zeplin band,
I learned every song the Beatles played.
But in the back of my mind I knew there'd come a time
When I'd have to leave it all behind
So with a 3 truck load I hit the road
And I didn't look back this time.
Well we settled outside of Jackson
Two miles down a dirt rock drive
Just my wife and me & my daughter makes 3
2 dogs, 2 cats and some flies.
Wouldn't call it a farm, but I got a weathered barn
A few horses and a big oak tree
I've got rocks for ground, but I'm settled down,
I'm right where I'm supposed to be
Now it's John Deere & Souvenirs
I got 11 acres for my ground
A perfect piece of land, from God's own hand
I got the hawks standing guard
But I'm up at 4, I don't lock my doors
I'm tired at the end of the day.
Don't have a dime but what I have is mine
& I wouldn't have it any other way
Well I coach a local kid's baseball team
and least year we even won a game
I got my own horse shoer and fresh manure
I've got a fair amount of sun and rain
Now in Sutter they're putting up a signal light
It's the 1st in the county to date
I drive 20 miles for my ice cream run
It's rough, oh lord it's great
Well we got ourselves a Chevy pickup truck
No air, no heat but it runs
My daughter's got 22 kids in her class
And I know every signal one
Our social life has changed just a bit
There's the car wash and PTA
But every once in a while we just sit and smile and watch the sunlight fade
CHORUS
