Dial Tune (Pilgrim/Dunkle)

Story Behind The Song

This is a collaboration with musical mastermind Billy Pilgrim on his song "Dial Tune". The song is about a man who goes to a construction site and as the workers are getting ready to destroy his grandparents old home, he asks the workers to stop and let him look around. He picks up his grandfathers old phone and looks beyond the spider webs and sees his grandmother's old piano and starts to reminisce about the past.

Lyrics

Let me take one last look around
My grandpa used to live here in this house
He used to call the shut-ins though he could barely hear
On this phone, this phone right here

When I dial this phone, this old phone
When I dial this phone, it takes me back again, back again

After grandma died he kept her piano
even though he never played at all
I learned to play on her piano
Lord I miss them

When I dial this phone, this old phone
When I dial this phone, it takes me back again

It takes me back, takes me back, back again

It takes me back, takes me back again
It takes me back, takes me back again

Let me take one last look around
Let me take one last look around, Lord I miss them
Let me take one last look around, Lord I miss them ......repeat

I like the setting , old phone and piano, the old house etc

The intro makes a big impact. The instrumentation is excellent. I love the electric piano; I always do. I like the vocal delivery very much. Great change for the chorus. Melodically superb. A very engaging song. Very clever use of taped effects...children playing, telephone dial etc. Great sound quality.

An absolutely stunning song, being a pianist, I love the keywork in this but the whole song put together works perfect for me. Perfect Voice choices, and adding more exactly where it's needed. I'll be listening to more for sure. If this doesn't get picked for anything, even as a free standing single, I'd be shocked!

I like the hook and the instrumental parts, I love the sound of the dialing telephone! The premise of the song: dialing the familiar number that brings back of memories of Grampa/Gramma, the piano are beautifully original. I'd like to hear a bit more of a lyrical connection between the vocals and the melody. Ref. the production, I feel the instrumental portion is too far out-front of the vocal. I'd like to hear more of the vocal "backed-up" by the music. Yes I would welcome more songs by this artist - nice voice from what I can hear, good music accompaniment, lovely imaginative song.

This song has an interesting subject matter. It's a son or grandson reminiscing on memories of a beloved grandparent, specifically shooting off of 2 things, the phone and the piano. Creative subject matter. Nice harmonies at end. Great use of phone sound effects!

Very soulful and emotional piece. Instrumentation and arrangement are ideal for a piece like this.
