Story Behind The Song
One day, I'm sure I'll actually own a real piano, but for now the Triton LE served me well, along with a loop or two & a thumpin' McCartney-esque bass line by BFoot.
Song Description
When my grandmother died many years ago & her house was sold, the prospect of throwing away her piano - the piano my Mom, my aunt & uncle, and even I had learned to play on - proved a bit heartbreaking. It was as if getting rid of the piano was like getting rid of all the memories & good times involved with this instrument, even tho it was dilapidated & horribly out of tune. I wanted to capture the idea of loss, and love/hate between a man & his instrument rather than a man & a woman, and I found the two to be pretty interchangeable - enjoying good times & memories that become marred by twists of fate & karma, having to let go of something you once loved, & once made you who you are, and dealing with the pain of knowing it must go.

Lyrics
Goodbye piano
So sad to see you go
So many memories
There's only so many notes
Goodbye piano
I'm leaving you behind
I didn't want to lose you
Even tho I've lost my mind
This silence right now
Is probably the most
Pleasant time
We've shared in awhile
So goodbye piano
It's off to the lumberyard
There's too much of me inside you
Who knew this would be so hard?
Farewell piano
I've tried, but you won't let me
Tho you're everything I want
I know you never will forget me
You were so good
But it's probably best we don't hear from you anymore
Ivory and wood
I've given it all, I can't give more than everything I have
Pressing buttons, pressing on
Changing chords and cutting them
Now I know when
I'll lose my best friend
(Now it's time that I finally let you go)
This silence right now
Is probably the most
Pleasant time
We've shared in awhile
