Lyrics

MATUNUCK HILLS PRESERVE (1?15? Duration)
(Poem read with sound of the rainstick in the background)

Slopes steep and slippery
Slushy leaves moistened
With melted snow
Wind gently rustling
Through brittle branches

Paths twining, twisting,
Leading finally to
Soft soothing sunlight
Shaded with images
Of forsythia in early bloom
Glistening atop
An ice-capped kettle pond
Tucked safely away in Matunuck Hills

At water's edge
A cormorant swiftly swoops down
For its spoil
While a crane stretches its neck
And peers peacefully
At its own reflection

A few faint footprints
In the velvety snow
The only trace of man
In this wildlife refuge

Deer can wander here
In the untamed night
Far from the barrels of hunters
Far from the honking of horns
And the bustling
Of all night shoppers

Larva can lie
Dormant in its cocoon
Until spring
When it soars
As a damselfly
In the soft winds
Of the gentle sky
Amidst the pure fragrance
Of a freshly blooming rose

Matunuck Hills Preserve

VERSE 1
Slopes so steep
Slipping and sliding
Gentle breeze rustling through the trees
Paths that twine
Soon you?ll find
Ice-capped kettle pond

Refrain
Deer can roam on berries fill
For they?re safe here at Matunuck Hills.
Cranes can rest and stretch their neck
Peering at the water?s edge.
So few footprints in the velvet snow.
They tell us where so few go.
Larvae lie safe in their cacoon.
Damseflies so soon.

VERSE 2
Peaceful sky filled with scents of roses.
Melted snow dancing as you go.
Paths that twist fix your eyes on this
Pond in early bloom.

Refrain
Deer can roam on berries fill
For they?re safe here at Matunuck Hills.
Cranes can rest and stretch their neck
Peering at the water?s edge.
So few footprints in the velvet snow.
They tell us where so few go.
Larvae lie safe in their cacoon.
Damseflies so soon.

Wow, I've NEVER heard anything like this on Broadjam! The first part is an amazingly written descriptive poem. It reminds me of Thoreau (at least in concept, if not in structure). Is this a pond in Maine? Either way, it's excellent poetry. Then...Part 2. The artist marries the poem with music with an operatic voice that is brilliant and clear. This is innovative! Very fresh and interesting to listen to. This lady is carving her own musical path in poetry.
