Story Behind The Song
My mother was diagnosed with cancer and the doctor sensed that we didn't really have all the facts. So he took me and my dad in a room and explained that she had inoperable lung cancer and that she had only a few months to live. It tells the story of how she had the strength and courage to make all the arrangements for her funeral and my role as a paul bearer at her funeral.

Lyrics
It came up behind you
And took you by the hand
And suddenly a young boy
Had to learn to be a man
We sought an explanation
He took us to a room
Said his work was done now
There was nothing he could do
Save a place for me up there in heaven
Wave to me as you fly by the moon
I hope you get the welcome you deserve
In heaven's waiting room
You handled the arrangements
And took it in your stride
You'll always be remembered
With dignity and pride
I bore you on my shoulder
Like any son would do
You carried me all my life
And now I'll carry you
Save a place for me up there in heaven
Wave to me as you fly by the moon
I hope you get the welcome you deserve
In heaven's waiting room
I still think about you
As often as I can
But tears are often frowned on
When they come from a man
I underestimated
The time it takes to heal
And now I'm just a shadow
Of the man I used to be
Save a place for me up there in heaven
Wave to me as you fly by the moon
I hope you get the welcome you deserve
In heaven's waiting room
