Someday You're Gonna Be

Story Behind The Song

One of the first jobs I had as a teenager was a nurse's aide in an old people's home. I emptied a lot of bedpans and gave a lot of baths and saw a lot of old bodies. I wanted to write a song that would teach young (and older) people to THINK before they do something they might regret to their bodies. It is my hope that this song will motivate people to take good care of their bodies now so they can be healthy in old age.

Song Description

Someday you're gonna be an old lady/man, so you had better take good care of your body now, so you won't pay the consequences later. Emphasizes the value of each individual as a priceless treasure that should be cared for accordingly. This song deals with tattoos, rotten teeth, junk food, and flabby people who refuse to exercise. It might step on a few toes, but OH WELL! Deal with it, ha ha!

Lyrics

How do you do? Miss Mary Lou
On her way to buy her first tattoo.
"Put in on my belly with my boyfriend's name"
Break up! Shake up! Oh what a shame.
Now she's 80; had a heart attack.
Pretty young nurse giving her a bath (says)
"Pardon my asking, Ma'am, but.... Who was Willy?"
Lou says, "Darlin' I was so silly!" Don't you know that ....

CHORUS: Someday, someday, You're gonna be an old lady.
Someday, someday, your're gonna be an old man
The things that you do to your body today
Have consequences that you will pay
Someday, someday, someday.

Here comes Andy, addicted to candy
Thinks junk food is just fine and dandy
Stuffing his face like tomorrow won't come.
He won't exercise; he says it's no fun.
When he was young, he wouldn't brush or floss.
Now his teeth are a total loss.
If Andy could be here, I know what he's say
He'd say, Don't be like me, kids, cuz you know that ..."

BRIDGE: So think before you jump!
Look before you leap!
You are a priceless treasure!
Don't sell yourself so cheap!

Some kids are smart! They're listening well.
Someday we'll all have a story to tell.
The wise saw the pit and they didn't fall in
The fool didn't think to save his own skin.
The saying is true: That you reap what you sow!
So plant the good seeds and watch your garden grow!
When the harvest comes, we'll sing and rejoice
For all the smart kids who made the right choice.
