Lyrics
Ode to Grandma Jo - by Michel Rae Driscoll
If I had a ticket for an airplane I?ll tell you where I?d go
I?d be off to Ventura California to visit my Grandma Jo.
You see my Grandma, she?s turning a blessed 90 years old
My favorite thing about my Grandma Jo, is the red hair and freckles we all love so
My sister Cheri was the lucky one to take after you, Grandma Jo.
*So Grandma Jo don?t you see ? even though you don?t see me,
I?ve been loving you all this while, thinking of you always makes me smile
I never told you enough, so let me tell you now, let me sing it now
Grandma Jo, I love you so.
One memory that is so wonderfully clear, and one I?ve always held so dear
Was the Christmas of 1975, Grandma?s backyard, poinsettias growing wild
And a lemon tree with fruits the biggest I?ve seen, truly amazed this child
A gift from Grandma Jo that was a treasure of mine, an apple shaped bottle with perfume inside
And to this day the scent of apples still sends me back in time.
*So Grandma Jo don?t you see ? even though you don?t see me,
I?ve been loving you all this while, thinking of you always makes me smile
I never told you enough, so let me tell you now, let me sing it now
Grandma Jo, I love you so.
I was 8 years old and it was 8 years later, the next time we got to meet
Grandma Jo took me shopping at Cherokee bought the coolest denim skirt I?d ever seen
I treasured that skirt for years to come and thought of Grandma Jo each time I put it on.
Grandma Jo I?ve been there so many times even if only in my mind
The memories are few but they?re mine to hold, I treasure them like they were made of gold.
*So Grandma Jo don?t you see ? even though you don?t see me,
I?ve been loving you all this while, thinking of you always makes me smile
I never told you enough, but let me tell you now, let me sing it now
Grandma Jo, I love you so.
