Lyrics
?The Kite?
It was framed with balsa wood - they made sure to glue it real good
The paper was sunshine yellow and snowy white
The tail was made from mama?s secondhand skirt and one of dad?s old Sunday shirts
Little Henry sure was proud of that kite
Then March brought a ragin? wind but it was nothin? like the storm within
Daddy was packin; to leave and mama was cryin?
So Henry wrote God a note filled with all his fears and hopes
He tied it to the tail of that kite and sent it flyin?
Chorus
It read,? Heavenly Father I?m sending this prayer
As high as this string will go
Daddy?s through packin? and I?m really scared
But You can make him stay I know!?
?Bout the time the rain began the kite blew out of Henry?s hand
Daddy started up his truck and pulled out of the driveway
He?d gone about a mile or so when he spied that kite in the road
He stopped and picked it up and read Henry?s writing
Chorus
Well he turned his truck around - Man he really put the pedal down
And headed straight for home as fast as lightning
He held his wife and son and he vowed he?d never leave them alone
Now the family ties are strong and that kite?s still flyin?!
