Story Behind The Song
This is a sunny little tune about a fictional daredevil named Tommy who tries to beat a train across the tracks in his fast car, fails, and then dies in a ball of flames. Despite the dark material the song was a blast to record when Kerosene Kites recruited hot shot Kenny Leiser (of Wheelhouse) to tear it up on the fiddle and Gabe Burdulis (of Future Stuff and Gabe Burdulis Band) on electric guitar. The result was one of the most scorching tracks on the record (pun intended).

Lyrics
Tommy had a wild streak, leapin' in with both feet
Not afraid to take a dare
Loving the attention, hooked on the adrenaline
Life in the cross hair
Dancing on a wire and playing with fire and
Not a drop of common sense
Trigger happy finger, never one to linger
On a thought of consequence
But this time he went too far
He could not outrun the train
With shots of lightning in his veins
With a manic sound
He put the pedal down
Like a fire you can't contain
He could not outrun the train
She got out the car door
Screaming "Baby no more!
You know you gotta change."
And oh he tried but that devil inside
Always pushed him the wrong way
Feeling invincible, crazy, unstoppable
He never heard her cries
White knuckles on the steering wheel
And a wild look in his eyes
He thought he'd never die
He could not outrun the train
With shots of lightning in his veins
With a manic sound
He put the pedal down
Like a fire you can't contain
He could not outrun the train
Metal screeching whistles blowing
The engineer tried to brake
But it's always been his destiny
To go down in a ball of flames
He could not outrun the train
With shots of lightning in his veins
With a manic sound
He put the pedal down
Like a fire you can't contain
He could not outrun the train
