Story Behind The Song
I got tired of listening to guitarists try and play Christmas carols to piano arrangements written for hymnals. This jazzy arrangement is designed for use by soloists, jazz groups and worship bands. The traditional melody is sung to a guitar/keyboard/band chord progression. Musicians are encouraged to improvise their parts, but sheet music is available if needed. Lyrics
Lyrics by John W. Work, Jr., 1907 (Lk. 2:8-20)
Refrain:
Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.
While shepherds kept their watching
o'er silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens
There shone a holy light
Down in a lowly manger
The humble Christ was born,
And God sent us salvation
That blessed Christmas morn.
Additional Lyrics
The shepherds feared and trembled,
When lo! above the earth,
Rang out the angels chorus
That hailed our Savior's birth.
