Lyrics

Being There

Why is it always the simple things that can send me fallin??
A cup of coffee in the morning sun can take me back to my Mom.
I see the faded stars through the city lights and my Father?s callin?.
I turn on the TV, and there?s the Slayer, Buffy,
and she Looks just like my sister, and I miss her stupid jokes.

Why is it always when your guard is down that the river comes flooding in?
I see a poster for ?Dames At Sea? and I hear my best friend singin?.
La da da da da da, here I go again, I?m drivin? those back roads.
And my brother behind the wheel and we?re flyin?,
Down the highway in Nana?s car at a hundred miles an hour,
And I swore I?d never tell.

And even though it?s perfect that I am where I am, it doesn?t
Change the fact that I?d go back on a laser beam,
In a Star Trek theme, and
Even though I can write to you, and phone any time, it doesn?t
Take the place of..... Being There.

I look at all these mountains, and I see the hills of home.
That?s my river and that?s my valley, and that?s my view of the ocean.
And the Minas Basin has a thousand faces, I know them all.
I sleep like a log to the sound of the fog horn,
I wake up to my coffee in a cup, and the clean morning sun,
It all goes back to my Mom.

And even though it?s perfect that I am where I am, it doesn?t
Change the fact that I?d go back on a laserbeam,
In a Star Trek theme, and
Even though I can write to you and phone anytime, it doesn?t
Take the place of... Being There, and

Even though I?ve got a new home, and I love this new land, well I
Guess that I confess that my heart is missing you,
And this much is true, that
Even though I can write to you and phone any time, it doesn?t
Take the place of.....
Being There.
