Story Behind The Song
I was in a relationship where communication had broken down and everything just felt suspended in air. Would we break up? Would we patch this up? We were still going through some of the motions, yet the atmosphere was pea soup thick. Either way I wanted the feelings I had at that time to end, because not knowing has its own kind of pain. In a good relationship that is breaking up, you often not only lose your lover, but you lose your friend as well.

Lyrics
What Have We Become
@2009 Julianne Ankley
I've been waitin' on your call
been watchin' down my street
you don't come around at all
can you tell me
what have we become
those flowers standin' there
don't make up for the loneliness
I find sittin' in this chair
can you tell me what have we become
don't wanna know this feelin' runnin' through my head
when I'm lyin' here thinkin' alone in this bed
is this the beginnin' of the end
cause we're no longer lovers
you were my friend and now you can't be one
can you tell me
can you tell me
what have we become
how do diamonds get to glow
when they're lyin' in a box with no place to go
can you tell me what have we become
oh what would be the difference if we went our separate ways
would the sun come back to shine on me
and brighten up my days
is this the beginnin' of the end cause we're no longer lovers
you were my friend and now you can't be one
can you tell me yeah
what have we become
oh is this the beginnin' of the end cause we're no longer lovers
you were my friend and now you can't be one
can you tell me
can you tell me
what have we become
