Story Behind The Song
As a child, adults always told me, "Enjoy it while you can." But I, like many other kids, couldn't wait to grow up. Now, as an adult, I understand what they were saying, and wish I could back and do it again. The second verse is based on the relationship between my wife and me. Thinking about those small moments I have often taken for granted, such as when we said, "I love you," the 2nd verse was not difficult to write.
Song Description
Verse 1 is a reflection of childhood/youth, leading to the chorus, which deals with a longing to go back to this time period. Verse 2 reflects on a relationship between a couple, remembering those small but rare moments that we take for granted.

Lyrics
Should Know Better
(C) 2009 Jonathan Dean Snellings
VERSE:
There was nothing that could touch us
Underneath that summer sun
Just a bunch of kids doing everything
And nothing more than being young
Yeah, they were always trying to tell us,
"Son, enjoy it while you can."
But we just looked at them and laughed to ourselves
And off we ran
CHORUS:
I re-trace the steps
And I go back in time
I live it all again
And then I push rewind
I've been wonderin'
Oh, if it's a crime
'Cause here I am
Wishing for one more time
Guess I should know better than that
I should know better than that
VERSE:
There was nothing that could touch us
Underneath that autumn sky
Two crazy kids going crazy for each other
Had that look in our eyes
And she said, "I think that I love you,"
Oh man, I think I died
How could I've known that moments like those
Are so rare in this life?
