Blue Jeans

Story Behind The Song

Autobiographical. I grew up in Detroit in the 50s and 60s, and Motown was King. My older sisters had lots of records and would have "sock hops" where they put on a stack of 45s and sang and danced (Chiffons, Shirelles, Martha and the Vandellas, Supremes, all the early girl groups). The first time I danced with a young man in blue jeans. First crush. Young love. And how it later grew into the love of a lifetime. You can alter the words to fit Casey's age and image, that's fine. Just run it by me. Any country singer worth her salt could make a huge hit out of this song - it's got that guitar hook and swingin' back beat that make it perfect for partner dancing. - Joe

Song Description

Remembering the first feeling of excitement of popular dance music - the first time it clicks with you and you just let go and move! Having fun dancing with a man in blue jeans, someone kind and gentle, how his eyes, the jeans, and the feeling all combine in a warm feeling. And how that feeling has grown up into a more mature relationship with a kind, loving man...in blue jeans.

Lyrics

(My Man In) BLUE JEANS (2008, 2009 Joe Chaplain, Eutona Music/BMI)

Verse:
In 1962 man we was runnin' around
We danced the mashed potato what a crazy sound
You know we kicked off our shoes, stacked up the 45's
We swung around and around, oh yeah man we was alive!
In 1960 - in 1960

Chorus:
A man in blue jeans - that's what I'm talkin' about
His eyes are so serene, no he don't scream nor shout
And when he takes you in his arms and holds you tight
You gonna rock and roll all through the night
A man in blue jeans, a man in blue jeans

BRIDGE:
Indigo dye, cotton thread,
Tremble inside and then I lose my head
Do I curse Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss?
You always know when those blue jeans are in the house

Oh man in blue jeans, Oh man in blue jeans

Verse:
When I was seventeen [choose age - ed.] I met a gray [choose color - ed.] eyed man
He took my breath away, it weren't no one night stand
Now it's been sixteen weeks [choose time period - ed.] and we're still in love
And every night I thank a thousand stars above

My man in blue jeans - my man in blue jeans

Chrous:
My man in blue jeans - that's what I'm talkin' about
His eyes are so serene, no he don't scream nor shout
And when he takes me in his arms and holds me tight
We gonna rock and roll all through the night
My man in blue jeans, my man in blue jeans
