Question Your Motives ©

I was all but broken, with a heart no longer open
Looking for an answer, that I didn't want to find
They told me;

"Question your motives, do not deny
You hold all the answers within your mind-eye
Cuz, there ain't nothing you can't see, that you won't see again
And if you think it's just beginning, well, it's beginning to end

Question your motives, open your book
What are you hiding, give 'em a look
Cuz, there ain't nothing they can do, that they ain't done before
But, if you give 'em your power, sure, they'll come back for more

There ain't nothing new, it's already been told
It's all just a story and the story is old
Cuz, it's a story that's full of lies, but you let 'em ring true
Since the end can not change, til the beginning's brand new

Question your motives
Question your motives

The end's the beginning, the beginning's the end
It's all quite the same, it's just a matter of when...
When you give 'em your power, like you've done here before
There ain't nothing they can do, but come back for more

Open your eyes, see what you can
Look in the mirror if you don't understand
That there is something you can do, that you ain't done before
Why don't you keep your own power, so they can't come back for more
Why don't you keep your own power, so they can't come back for more

There's some really clever lyric writing here. I like the way that the writer juxtaposes the 2 different sides of each coin/phrase. It's a unique way of presenting the wisdom message of the song. Very well thought out!
The vocals are crystal clear and easy to understand. The female back up vocals are perfect. This one's a winner!

Great Blues tune! Love it all from the story to the guitar to the strong vocals. Pro production. Well done

I really like this. The mix and production are great. The vocals work well together. Nice country blues song.

Great great great music licensing hook, great job! It's definitely ready to go for the next level.

great beat

The song has ended but I/m still bobbing my head and tapping my foot. This song had me questioning my motives LOL! Nice job Hartmut, sorry correction excellent job. This could easily be heard across any major movie or film. Got a real honky tonk boogie to it. I loved it.

Too much electric guitar, alot of Reverb, needs more instruments,

Another cool song Jeff!! Some really cool lyrics! One of my favorite lines is:

And if you think it's just beginning, well, it's beginning to end

Lots to like here....vocal and harmony are great!! I like the lead guitar throughout....really works well in this tune! Great stuff!!

Cool tune, really like the drummer. Nice harmonies. Good guitar player.

Chugs along nicely in a blues /country vein, shades of JJ Cale and or maybe Clapton in a country blues setting.

Reminded me (vocally) of the great 80's band called Love and Money - check them out - Jocelyn Square or their big hit Candybar Express. A different kettle of fish musically but I always try and introduce artists to artists I like if I hear a similarity - always good to hear a great cross section of stuff in my view.

Blues is a hard genre for originality. The quality of recording, the vocals and instruments are good.

good start, tasty guitar, components mostly there and effective

Tight groove, strong lived-in voice, intriguing lyrics, dramatic use of silence, nice guitar work, everything hangs together. The female voice entering in the middle adds a new dimension. Nice work!

LIKE THE VOICE. NICELY DONE. LIKE THE MESSAGE. NICE GUITAR.

There wasn't much not to like about this song. Lyrics were good, great guitar work, catchy melody and well balanced mix. The female background singer has a great bluesy voice while the lead vocalist has more of a baritone country sound. Good blend of country and blues genres. Keep up the good work!

Wow!!! Very Nice.the song got me the first 2 seconds.I very rarely give a perfect score. this song is it. unlike so many ,you played together like a fine tuned machine.there wasn't one particular player trying to overpower another. It sounded like you all were having fun playing this. now,..I put R&B but this song could EASILY fit into many different categories. There is such a unique sound and talent expounds.I truly enjoyed listening and hope to see you on tour someday!!!! you should if you're not!!!!!

I really like the strong vocals and the lead guitar - very good female backing vocals too.

I would consider this blues/rock but not country blues...just my interpretation of the genre...lots of energy...I liked the initial two verses the best...very clever play on words...melodically this follows the 12 bar blues genre to a T...same thing for the chord progression...familiar melodies and chord progressions are what make the blues so timeless...nothings changed but tempo in a hundred years...You used the hook in the appropriate place...very entertaining song

Very nice feel to this track.
Nice lead vocal.
Very nice harmonies.
Well produced and mixed.

Very nice! Lover these kinds of songs. Nice driving guitar. The drums are just right and not over-cooked. Great vocal presentation. Reminded me of 'Eric Clapton', 'Lynyrd Skynyrd'.

Great vocal; great arrangement; very good recording

Great writing - cool groove. Big voice. Love the hook. I'm a fan.

Nice work like it well done

I can't see that this song needs anything that would add to it. It's fine county 'Blues' music.

Nice rock-a-billy feel, more country than blues, some good ideas in the lyrics.

Fun, fun song! Catchy lyrics. Great voice. I think bgvcs are great too.

Very Clever, love the vocal

I think its a good song and the instrumentation is excellent.

Very cool song!! Love the vocals including the backup.
