Dry Run
©Jeffrey C. Ashbaker 7-15-2016

Oh, it was early in the morning,
Or it was later in the evening, I really can't recall
And yes, there was a moment to believe in
And there was something like a warning, when I was up against the wall
So light the candle, block the wind
Close the door, but don't lock me in

Ah, I was learning it the hard way
Taking it so easy, I never felt the pain
And yes, it was never just my secret
Forgetting to remember, it damages the brain
So light the candle, block the wind
Close the door, but don't lock me in

----Chorus----
It's so simple it's not easy
And it's the hardest thing I've done
To take a ride on this dry run
-------------------------------------------

Yeah, me and Bill and all those strangers
And I only heard their first names, but they were different, things had changed
Oh, telling stories how we misspent
Our lives and living in the past tense, so familiar, yet so strange
So light the candle, block the wind
Close the door, but don't lock me in

Yeah, It's a mystifying puzzle
To realize some powers were never yours at all
Oh, when you really know the difference
You'll surely find the wisdom in rising from the fall
So light the candle, block the wind
Close the door, but don't lock me in
-Solo Verse Break-
-Repeat Chorus-

What a great song. Everything sounds so clear and smooth. I got so happy listening to this song. I didn't quite understand everything, even though the singer sang super clear, but it didn't matter. The female voice nicely complemented the male voice.

I like it . sounds like it could be a kind of eagles type song.

Good country/folk vibe on this one. Well played and well recorded. I like the smoking hot guitar riffs. Well done. Thanks for sharing it.

I really like the movement of this folk/rock tune, nice lyrical content, nice story telling, nice rhyming choices as well. Nice solo guitar work!

nice job overall! witty lyric. Tasty git!

Great journeyman-like effort. Sounds cool.

Intelligent and well arranged piece with a good steady beat and a groove that makes you get up out of your chair. Really good guitar instrumental.

The vocals and the backup vocals are excellent. The lyics are nice. The drums and bass are very good. The guitar lead was very melodic. Nice touch. I like the feel of this song. I like what I heard.
