Story Behind The Song
Personal portrait of me before I was truly saved and filled with the Holy Spirit and changed forever from the self-righteous man I was. After the divorce from my second practice wife, and deep depression, weight loss, and suicidal thoughts..God lifted me up and blessed me beyond all measure. For those recovering...this is almost an anthem.
Song Description
Letting go and letting God after you have tried to do it all yourself...cause bein' good ain't good enough! And that's my next song...

Lyrics
SO CLOSE TO THE TIMBER
Copyright 2004
- Jim H Kelley, title from a Charles Swindoll book
VERSE 1
You've bought every Bible, and read every verse.
Got down on your knees, in front of the church.
You've looked everywhere, and you've searched every place.
So far from the blood, yet so close to His grace
VERSE 2
You don't need anybody, yet long for a touch.
Don't want for a thing, but need for so much.
So close to your mind, yet so far from your heart
Let hope be your promise, and faith be your part.
CHORUS
So close to the timber, yet so far from the cross.
Hoping you're saved, thinking you're lost.
Longing for Heaven, afraid of the cost.
So close to the timber yet so far from the cross.
VERSE 3
You sing in the choir and teach Sunday school too
You know God is love, but doubt He loves you.
Doing your best work, so you can show them.
That you've heard all about God, but do you really know Him?
BRIDGE
Filled with the Spirit, yet empty inside.
Let go of old Adam, that old sinner has died.
Stop waiting. Start doing. Let Christ take control.
And the peace that you seek, He will bring to your soul.
CHORUS
So close to the timber, yet so far from the cross
Hoping you're saved, thinking you're lost.
Longing for Heaven afraid of the cost
So close to the timber yet so far from the cross.
Washed in the blood, for He paid the cost.
His bloods on the timber, but He's not on the cross.
Washed in the blood, for He paid the cost.
His blood's on the timber, but He's not, He's not on the cross!
