Story Behind The Song
The idea came to me driving home from a Steve Seskin seminar. I wrote the lyric in 30 minutes.....that will never happen again. The first verse is the wagon I had, the second verse is my first car. For guys, our wheels are very important I our lives. I just wanted to write about it.
Song Description
Once you get your first set of "wheels", whether it be a trike or a wagon, and you set the wheels in motion, there is no going back. Nothing gives you the same feeling of freedom as rolling along on those wheels, bike, car or truck, they are all the same feeling.

Lyrics
Wheels©
( Barnette, Brehmer, 2006)
Verse
Beat up and kinda rusty with dull red paint
Couple bolts were missin, handle wasn't straight
Axles bent, wheels are loose, no tread left on the tires
Used to be my Daddy's, he gave to me when I was five
Lift
Wind in my face as I rolled down the drive
Got my first taste of freedom in that old Radio Flyer
Chorus
We need wheels, get us where we're going
Those wheels, set our lives to motion
From the day we learn to talk
We look for reasons not to walk
Somehow
Wheels make the world go round
Verse
72 Chevy Nova with a three on the tree
16 yrs old, she was the same age as me
Air Conditioned floor boards, dash faded from the sun
200 bucks and a handshake, man that girl could run
Lift
Wind through the window as I pulled out the drive
Remembered that freedom first felt when I was five.
Chorus
We need wheels, get us where we're going
Those wheels, set our lives to motion
From the day we learn to talk
We look for reasons not to walk
Somehow
Wheels make the world go round
Bridge
I let go of her bike my little girl gets to feel
The wind and the freedom comes from rolling on those wheels
