Mr. Lonesome

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song in stages over several years. It was stitched together by incorporating a bevy of romantic feelings and experiences that I had been through during my lifetime. This is not common for me as I usually finish a song fairly quickly. However, I'm proud of the final song/arrangement, and I'm so glad that I held onto the pieces, which ultimately allowed me to place them together and create this song.

Song Description

Ups and downs in romantic love lead to so many of our songs. A man who is afraid of commitment is not always a bad guy. He has been hurt and therefore will not allow himself to be hurt again. Once he rebuffs true love, tragically, he will endure this loneliness for life, or at least until he finds another true love. Believe me- I've lived it, I've loved it. I'm Mr. Lonesome.

Lyrics

They met one late summer
In one great summer year
He was all she needed
She was all he feared

They meshed together quickly
Like corresponding colors
Soon she danced in his head at night
He stopped thinking of others

But fearing she would leave him
He turned and he fled
Then thinking she might grieve him
He turned back instead

Too late Mr. Lonesome
She dances for some other
Her satin skin and sunshine grin
You'll nevermore discover
Like clever wind her love swirled in
And softly blew your cover
Too late Mr. Lonesome
You may never find another

That feelin' when you're leavin'
Left him way down in the pits
His direction sense was broken
His outlook an abyss

He missed her so completely
And prayed to be released
Especially every morning
When waking to no peace

His lonely days last longer
As he gropes to find their end
He hopes to someday reach her
And take her hand again

Too late Mr. Lonesome
She dances for some other
Her satin skin and sunshine grin
You'll nevermore discover
Like clever wind her love swirled in
And softly blew your cover
Too late Mr. Lonesome
You may never find another

Maybe he'll just go for the gusto
Call and ask her how she's been
You'd think even a blind man could reason
That she'd never again see him

Too late Mr. Lonesome
She dances for some other
Her satin skin and sunshine grin
You'll nevermore discover
Like clever wind her love swirled in
And softly blew your cover
Too late Mr. Lonesome
You may never find another

Too late Mr. Lonesome
Too late Mr. Lonesome
Too late Mr. Lonesome

You may never find another
