The Set Up Man

Story Behind The Song

I am "The Set Up Man". I've had several relationships that didn't work because the women said basically that didn't love only to find out that they are now in a relationship with a person of similar character and personality as mine. I even had two who told me that they were sorry they let me go and only realized after the fact they had made a mistake.

He in turn does everything he can to show how much he adores them and wants to be their man. They'll treat you like a king like they know they should
(oooh I'm the set up man)
You'll wonder why the woman treats you so fine
It's cause that pretty woman usta be mine
(yeah I'm the set up man)
If you don't understand what I'm trying to say
Listen a little more , you 'll know the time of day
(oohh I'm the set up man)
I treated those women like they were queens
But they turned around and treated me oh so mean
(yeah I'm the set up man)
BRIDGE
They all say that he's such a very nice man (give him a hand)
But they tell me that they only want me as a friend (I can't understand)
Now I'm the kind of guy who doesn't cuss or fight
I lay my heart on the line cause I know it's right
(yeah I'm the set up man)
But some women just can't comprehend
What it's like to have a good hearted man
(oooh I'm the set up man)
I made it clear that I realy cared for them
I told them their more precious than the finest gems
(oooh I'm the et up man)
And when they come up short I gave em the green
Cause you know they got to have them fancy blue jeans
(yeah I;m the set up man)
But when it comes to love they say baby not yet
You're really not my lover baby you're just a pet
(awww) I'm the set up man)
BRIDGe
Lord when will I become a part of the class ( at last)
Maybe it's true, nice guys really finish last (so sad)
MAIN
When I tell the girls I guess I'm not part of their plans
They say don't go baby then they grab my hand
(yeah I'm the set up man)
Now I'm a nice man but I anin't no fool
I know when a woman is taking me to school
(yeah I'm the set up man)
They say Lord please send me another righteous man
Now I know and now I think understand
(oohhh I want my set up man)
So now you got my girl my brother man
And now you've become my biggest fan
(oooh I thank you set up man)
Don't want to be the set up man no more
So women don't come knockin at my door, my door
The set up man no more
I want a lover not a friend
Women can't you understand
No more set up man
I just got to take a stand
Women can't you understand
There'll be no more set up man

I
