Story Behind The Song
The inspiration behind this song was my '86 Nissan truck. I had over 200,000 miles on it (Highway Miles, that is...) and it's all true, I really did have a girl in Carson City and a girl in Bakersfield at one time

Lyrics
HIGHWAY MILES
well I think I need a tune-up
and I need to be aligned
been shakin' up and down the freeway
ridin' on borrowed time
two hundred thousand miles or more
I've watched them all go by
but there all HIGHWAY MILES
you know I love to run
and they're all HIGHWAY MILES
you know I love to run
I had a girl in Carson City
I had a girl in Bakersfield
and the only thing we saw the same
was the view through my windshield
just a quick fix for the loneliness
and I was back behind the wheel
and on those HIGHWAY MILES
you know I love to run
yeah they're all HIGHWAY MILES
you know I love to run
before this place gets old
before my engine's cold
before the night calls it a day
won't you wish me luck
and point me to the Freeway
when it's early in the evening
and the lights begin to shine
only one of us complainin'
I can hear the engine whine
and I'm takin' with me no regrets
'cause I've left them all behind
along those HIGHWAY MILES
you know I love to run
yeah they're all HIGHWAY MILES
you know I love to run
