Song Description
I spent 5 years as a Paraprofessional in the Special Education Department. This included grades K-5, middle school, and High School. I wanted to write a song from the point of view of a girl in a wheelchair trying to get through the day. Being labeled "Disabled" is a daily challenge for many.

Lyrics
HOLDING ONTO HEAVEN Copyright 2025 Diana Rasmussen
[Verse]
They call me broken but I'm still whole
Carrying dreams in a heart of gold
Chains on my body can't hold my soul
I'm reaching for skies where the stars unfold
[Chorus]
Labelled disabled but my spirit's free
There's a fire inside that no one can see
Hope of heaven is my melody
Rising above what they say of me I've been labelled disabled
[Verse 2]
Wheels may roll but my heart can fly
I paint my world on the canvas of sky
They see the chair but they miss the light
A blazing sun in the darkest night
[Chorus]
Labelled disabled but my spirit's free
There's a fire inside that no one can see
Hope of heaven is my melody
Rising above what they say of me I've been labelled disabled
[Bridge]
I've got a voice louder than their doubt
I'm shouting love when they're shutting me out
My wings are faith they're lifting me now
I'm soaring high can't pull me down
[Chorus]
Labelled disabled but my spirit's free
There's a fire inside that no one can see
Hope of heaven is my melody
Rising above what they say of me I've been labelled disabled
