Nice song, well written. Nice old timey feel, lyrics, etc. You can almost hear the fiddle part that goes with it. Good delivery on the lead vocal.
This is one of the best folk ballads I have heard in a long time. From the intro to the ending, you had me hooked! The story is well-told with skillfully crafted lyrics...Loved all the timely rhymes with Lakes of Pontchartrain. The guitar playing is stellar. The song is an interesting presentation...kind of an Irish ballad in a Louisiana setting. The word pictures are perfect...gators in the woods, jet-black ringlets. Your performance was so great I could "see it as you sang it." The conclusion and ending were also really well done. Bravo! Ten Stars. I'd definitely go to listen to you at a festival!
Excellent rendering of this classic folk ballad, which is an American variant of The Lily of the West. Soaring tenor voice that suits the song perfectly. Clear pronunciation, so you can hear the whole story. Well-judged vocal and guitar variations hold your interest without being overdone. A pleasure to listen to.
a lovely folk song, love the vocal tone and style and the acoustic guitar is great throughout. good lyrics and story. very traditional in its way but sounding modern. enchanting tune and a naturally sounding very good performance.
A great song sung and performed very well by the artist, who brings the song to life. It stands comparison with my favourite interpretation of the song by Aoife O'Donovan. I will certainly listen to more of the same, as I think the performer gives us a genuine warmth in the vocal and we get to share a wonderful song a very good performer obviously enjoys performing. That enjoyment shines through the performance.
Guitars were excellent. Those push-offs & hammers are not always easy to hit perfectly. I'm assuming there was more than one.
