Put Your Slippers On

Story Behind The Song

Wrote this song while visiting a friend in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. I was overwhelmed with a sense of relaxation and peace as soon as I got there. The first day I was there- we did a bunch of things- we surfed, I took in some of the island, and they brought me to a place called "the end of the world" where I jumped off a 50 foot cliff. The next morning I penned the lyrics to this song and immediately began to play with it. Throughout the whole process of getting the sound "right", my Hawaiian friends have been rooting for its completion. In Hawaii, sandals or "flip flops" are called slippers- and I got a kick out of that- so the idea grew from my amusement.

Lyrics

PUT YOUR SLIPPERS ON

Music/ Words Jay Della Valle

VERSE
Wake up to sunshine
Hear the sound of the morning light
Waves come crashing
Birds chirpin in my ears

Kona coffee come to me
think I need a wake up call
Rocky road to the beach
Spilled the cup all over me

CHORUS
Put your slippers on
Cause the ground is hot
You won't last too long
If you don't sing this song
of peace and freedom now
(peace and freedom,
peace and freedom)

VERSE
Surfboards to the jeep
Eddies got a bumblebee
Stop in a sandy place
I put the camera to his face

It's so damn bright
Taking left and takings rights
There's no reason to ever fight
we keep it cruisin through the night

CHORUS
Put your slippers on
Cause the ground is hot
You won't last too long
If you don't sing this song
of peace and freedom now

VERSE
Today I went to the end of the world
Saw the ocean from a rocky ledge
Hear thumping like a boom
Couldn't find my balls

Can't turn back now
What happens if I die?
Last voice I'll hear is woman from a boat
Screaming jump already
It's time to watch you risk your life today

CHORUS
Put your slippers on
Cause the ground is hot
You won't last too long
If you don't sing this song
of peace and freedom now

OUTRO

Now I'm on the lanai
With the sunset in my eyes
Pink and purples in the sky
Lets get ready for the night
