Story Behind The Song
One of the first songs that Julian Marshall and I co-wrote as Eye to Eye, in the late 1970s. I was a reformed wild child hippie whose commune had called it quits; my parents had fetched me from the snowy Rocky Mountains and enrolled me in college. It's a song about the sensitive process of surrendering to reality--not necessarily giving up on dreams, but more like a wake up call for when it's time to trust your gut, cut your losses, keep the faith and start again.
Song Description
A young woman sits in under a tree in the Midwest and watches the wind comb through its branches, thinking about the relationship between freedom and stability, between branches and roots.
