Story Behind The Song
i was street performing in st. augustine and a dude that cme by and tipped me every night asked me if i needed a couple days of work. i should have said no, but it yielded a song so i guess it had some merit.
Song Description
i was doing some remodel work, drywall. it had been years since i'd sworn i'd never do it again. this time it was the worst, in the middle of hot florida summer and we were doing a ceiling. dust and sweat were poring into my eyes so could barely see, straining to heft the material up at the top of a crappy old ladder.

Lyrics
The New You
jack of all trades and master of none i climb up a ladder like anyone back on the ground i squint and look around no point in trying to run
the new you goes back to a place the old you would not have stayed it's funny how little we learned the last time we found ourselves working the outside
icarus flew too close to the sun lucky us when we only have to learn once
the jackal anubis buries his bone and ferries our souls when all is said and done
peter pan on a pedestal plummets to the ground and on principle just hangs around
jack and jill come tumbling down at twelve feet per second and without a sound
and when i'm about to make ends meet they up and move the ends man, isn't that neat?
i play both ends against old middle man me while i lose my friends and keep my enemies
the new you goes back to a place the old you would not have stayed it's funny how little we learned the last time we found ourselves working the outside
