Story Behind The Song
Nearly a year after my father passed I had a conversation with my Mom on the 4th of July. She was telling me how she could smell the hay fields in the distance and the flowers that were blooming in her field. How she could hear the band playing up at the corner bar as she sat by a small fire she had made while all this was taking place. I in turn had just finished a few days earlier playing a job at a nursing home and thought about all the folks there who must be thinking about where they are at in their lives and the physical limitation that prevent them from doing the things they once loved. Lastly,I am a paraplegic from an accident that nearly took my life and left me wheelchair bound with a spinal cord injury. There are a lot of things I miss.
Song Description
Reflective song on the loss of things in ones life as the aging process takes hold and wishing things could be different but knowing that it's part of the process of living.

Lyrics
If I could Dance in this Field
Words and Music by: Christopher Paul
If I could Dance in this Field
What secrets would be revealed?
In the vibrant blaze of color
Reaching out to ransom me.
If I could dance in this field
In a moment so surreal
Bathed in golden sun
By the hand that made all things one.
But time has worn me away
And memories start to fade
Desperate to hold on
In the hope of rising again
If I could dance in this field
I know my heart would heal
Someone to take my hand
And spin me as fast as they can
But time withers all things away
And memories start to fade
Desperate to hold on
Longing to live again
If I could dance in this field
I'd stop and gently kneel
Giving thanks to the one
Father, Spirit and Son
For the grace to simply be.
