Lyrics
(text by Birthe Noer Myers)
BALLERINA
I've found the music box,
I long had thought was lost,
a happy memory.
The lid no longer locks,
It has some spots of rust,
but there is still a key.
And when I wind it up
it plays its melody,
but for the dancing girl
who ornaments the top
I have no remedy
to give her back her twirl.
The music box still plays
the tune that made her dance,
but she can turn no more,
dance should have filled her days,
but rust by cruel chance
has fixed her to the floor
and when the music plays.
she does not pirouette.
Forever on her toes,
she smiles still as she stays,
arms lifted, tilted head,
and holds her graceful pose.
