Story Behind The Song
This is a new mix and master to an old, original song recorded in 1972 in SF, CA. Very much a part of that era's musical style and inspired by Joni Mitchell, CSN&Y ... etc.
Clearly, this song is more of a poem than what modern, hooky, radio-friendly songs are about and a by-product of my appreciation for the romantic British poets....so, this is not a song for many people. But, as I was going thru some of my archives, I found this song and remembered that many people really loved this song....so, I've tried to clean it up and polish it for those who might enjoy it.... i.e., an esoteric and ponderable piece.
I had re-created the song a couple years back from memory...but this is the original draft of the tune.....

I'll be the river
Hold you when the ice is thin
I'll be the river
Drink me in
Me down here
And you up on the bridge
Filling me up with your tears
For you I'll grow a song
With a feathered quill that flows
And rides the river and takes you along
Sometimes I'm blind
Even when I try to see
Sometimes I'm blind
Sometimes when you're looking
For an ending to the frost
Sometimes when you find it
You ain't looking you're lost
You ain't looking you're lost
You ain't looking babe, you're lost
You're lost, you're lost, you're lost
Still, I'll be the river
Hold you when the ice is thin
I'll be the river
Drink me in
Our growing lights are growing sites
That eat at the strings and feed the night
The earth she buries and carries
The earth she buries and carries
The earth she buries and carries
Am I coming or going around?
Am I coming or going around?
Am I going or coming?
Am I coming or going?
Am I going or coming?
