Story Behind The Song
Zhou Xiao bay is the industrial base of China where young Chinese women are employed in miserable factory conditions earning barely enough money to survive. They survive their daily drudgery through hopes and dreams.
Soo Yin is a young girl who lives alone with her mother and is very unhappy.
Her mother attempts to ease her suffering by givng her hope that a rich man will come one day and marry her and her life will then get much better.
Many rich men in China seek mistresses in the poor areas of China preying on these hopes.
Soo Yin falls into the trap of false promises and finds herself pregnant and alone condemed to a life of misery and labor.
The cycle repeats as her daughte grows older and seeks to escape her life dreaming of her "prince to come".
Song Description
Soo Yin as a young girl dreams of a new life far away from the enslaved existence she and her mother live day to day.
She waits and day after day dreams of meeting someone who would change her life.
Finally one day she meets a man who promises to marry her but before her dreams are realised she becomes pregnant and he abandons her .
Left alone with an aging other and small child
to take care of she has no choice but to continue working in the sweatshop factories of Zhou Xiao bay. Time passes and Soo Yin cannot find any escape from her misery.
As she grows old she is heartbroken to watch her daughter repeat the same error that she did and is powerless to change the events that her mother, herself ,and now her daughter have trapped them to an enslaved existence in Zhou Xiao Bay.

Lyrics
ZHOU XIAO BAY
VERSE 1
Oh there's fine things in London
with clothes so fair.
But Soo Yin works dusk till dawn and has no time to spare
Her mamma says patience
things'll change one day
And then a young man will come and take you far away.
chorus
When will things change mamma?
Will he come?
Will he promise?
Is it today mamma?
Life's so hard
Zhou Xiao Bay.
verse 2
Then one day it happened
He couldn't stay
He left her without a cent and a young girl to raise
The years have gone by now
Soo Yin is gray
Her daughter dreams on and on and works so hard all day.
chorus repeat
verse 3
The winter's so cold now
Sky's dark and gray
Yin Chan she dreams on and on and then starts down to pray.
She dreams on
She dreams on
She dreams on
Zhou Xiao Bay
