Story Behind The Song

I was walking on the beach one day and came upon a long stemmed rose washed up on the shore. Another 10 feet there was another, then another. They went on for about a mile. My friend and I started making up stories about where they could have come from --- a wedding, a prom, a first kiss.... and then we came upon the funeral wreath washed up, surrounded by roses.

Song Description

A woman remembers her marriage on the beach, and then we learn that her husband was killed in the war. She is walking on the beach today, and finds roses washed up in the sand, here and there for about a mile. They remind her of her wedding and also the memorial service where they scattered his ashes in the sea. Both memories keep him near, as she smiles through her tears.
