Well, I stopped by the old town church last Christmas Eve
It just seemed like the thing to do, I do believe
Well I sat down and said a prayer and opened my eyes to see
A man dressed up like Santa Claus had sat down next to me

Well he sure looked the part alright, from his head down to his toes
The twinkling eyes, the rosy cheeks, the beard as white as snow
I said, "As 'Party Santa's' go, you must be in demand"
And he rolled his eyes and shook his head, and then he shook my hand

I said, " Merry Christmas, sir", as he nodded back and smiled
And we sang about the Holy Night and of the Holy Child
And the angels and the star and that first Christmas morn'
And the little town of Bethlehem and the Savior that was born -- -- -- --

... and it was beautiful ...

I said, "Enjoy your party, sir", as we turned to say good bye
He said, "Not tonight, my friend, in fact I've gotta fly"
Then he gave a wink and then a smile and shook my hand once more
And he donned his red and furry cap and headed for the door

And I followed him outside the church, as he sprang up to the roof
And then I thought I heard the sound of tiny reindeer hoofs
Crunching through the fallen snow that had settled down up there
And then before I knew it they were flying through the air

I said, "Please tell me Santa, why you stopped by here tonight..
If you've really got so much to do, and you've gotta catch a flight?
And they floated down before me as the words came from his lips,
"I must be sure my heart is right before I make this trip" -- -- -- -- --

... yep,.. that's what he told me,.. hmmm ...

He said, "Its not the presents or the tree or even 'me'
It's all about the Holy Child who came to set us free
He's the reason for the season. He's what its all about."
And as he flew away that night I heard old Santa shout,

"Have a ho ho holy Christmas, Have a ho ho holy Christmas
